TEAL goes Career Day

In one of our last articles, we already gave you an insight into our trainee program through Nils. Now we want to start a little bit earlier in the process – even before the new colleague starts working for us, i.e. in the area of recruitment and talent attraction.
On November 14, we will participate with TEAL in our first recruiting fair and our first Career Day at the Ruhr University Bochum – and of course we hope to meet many potential candidates and possibly future trainees for TEAL there!

What exactly is a Career Day?

Even though many people probably already know, we will briefly explain once again what exactly is meant by a Career Day at a university, because there are now so many different formats for bringing companies and applicants together that it is easy to lose track:

Many universities and colleges offer a regular (often annual) information day on the topics of job applications and career entry. Participating companies have small booths, with colleagues from the business and / or HR department on site, to be able to go there directly with the students or alumni into the exchange, to present their company, to answer questions or even already exchange contact information. Most visitors are therefore students and (fresh) graduates who are either looking for their first professional challenge or are at least still relatively at the beginning of their professional career.

At some Career Days, presentations are also held by companies or external speakers, which then usually all revolve around the topic of career entry and applications and often of course also offer useful information on the various industries and companies represented.

We will also be there with two colleagues: Manuel, one of our managing directors and founders, and Deike, our colleague who takes care of human resources.

But why did we choose to attend a Career Day in the first place?

You read and hear it everywhere now – companies are having increasing difficulty filling their vacancies with the right talent. Particularly in highly specialized areas, such as our cybersecurity division, this has also been an issue for quite some time, and one that we too have to face. This challenge of finding young talent has, among other things, contributed to the development of our trainee program. This allows us to teach young colleagues our tools, strategies and working methods directly and to make them fit for our consulting business through this mix of “training on the job” as well as internal and external training. Our trainees go through the program in 12 months, closely accompanied by a mentor and many different training modules.

Since both the IT security industry and the applicant market are constantly changing, the trainee program is also constantly being developed so that we can always adapt it to our new challenges and continuously improve it – naturally also through feedback from the trainees, our customers and market conditions.

If you are interested in the trainee program, please take a look at our blog article from August and our careers page: For our first real recruiting event, we have chosen the University of Bochum, because there is a specific course of study in the field of IT security offered – for us, it is therefore exactly fitting to start there and to get to know candidates who are already dealing with our subject area and are perhaps looking for a career entry there immediately or in the future.

In addition, of course, we also hope to further expand and improve our visibility as an employer and company. In line with our employer branding strategy, we would like to draw the attention of candidates and/or client companies to us – so that they will remember us when they are looking for a new challenge in the future or need support from us in the field of cybersecurity in their company.

What do we need to think about before we go to a Career Day?

So we plunge into the preparations together, hopefully thinking of everything.

So after we have submitted the registration, it’s time for us to start planning internally – HR and Marketing in particular are working together to prepare for the event.

The equipment of the booth already provides for the furniture and seating, so we just need everything around the details, which then of course also make our company and our logo visible – and a few gadgets for the candidates, so that they will also remember us afterwards 😉.

We design a roll-up that we can set up at our stand and plan which materials we can take with us, print business cards and also revise our job advertisements so that we are completely up to date when we will then be at the trade fair.

What do we hope to gain from our participation in Career Day?

As already written at the beginning, it is our first trade fair of this kind – therefore we go into the day without any possibilities for comparison. But we hope for an exciting day with many interesting conversations and of course one or the other contact, which could be exciting for a future cooperation – because we want to grow further in the future.

We will have the opportunity to have very individual conversations – be it about the IT security industry in general, our services and specializations, the trainee program, what a recruiting process looks like at our company or what we offer our employees at TEAL – so feel free to come by and find out what’s on your mind 😊.

Last but not least: When and where will Career Day be?

The Career Day will take place on Tuesday, 11/14/2023 at the University of Bochum.

Since we are now also planning for the year 2024, this date in mid-November also fits well with the upcoming start of our application phase for the next run of our trainee program in 2024 and therefore hope to be able to get to know one or two applicants in advance and to inspire them for TEAL!

Feel free to come by and get to know us and TEAL personally – we are looking forward to meeting you and maybe there will be a surprise for those who have read the whole blog article up to this point 😊!
